Mighty Mites Registration Update

We are pleased to announce that our registration is now closed! Great news, all those registered within the New Participants Lottery will be accepted, if the athlete passes the tryout process. We have 151 returning athletes and enough room for all new potential athletes.

Below is the information on the tryout process and dates. Please pick the earliest date possible to attend. If the athlete’s skills meet the tryout criteria, you will be notified to finalize their registration and pay.

Tryouts and Start of Mighty Mites

Weather dependent, we anticipate having trouts on December 6, 12 and 13. Click here for more information on tryouts and registration.

The first day of Mighty Mites is scheduled for Sunday, December 13 [weather dependent].
New this year, as the Tanaka lift will not be running, we will be starting a half hour later to alleviate lift line congestion.

General Sunday Schedule (race days may differ):
Meet Group: 10:45am
Load Lift: 11:00am
Lunch Break (meet your children at RTC): 12:30pm – 1:15pm
Meet Group/Load Lift: 1:15pm
End of Day: 3:15pm

First Tracks | Alyeska Ski Club and Hilltop Alpine Race Team membership gathering

Please join the Alyeska Ski Club and Hilltop Alpine Race Team for a membership gathering – First Tracks – a multi-club social to kick off the new ski season. Food, games, and live music will take place at the Hilltop Chalet on Sunday, September 20 from 3 to 7pm. This is a great opportunity to visit with your ski club friends, meet the coaches and learn about the clubs’ program offerings for the upcoming season!

Mighty Mite Banquet | APRIL 23, 2015

The Mighty Mite Year-End Banquet will be held this year on THURSDAY, APRIL 23, 2015, from 6:00 pm to about 8:30 pm, at the Bear Tooth Theater.

The Banquet costs $15/person for all the pizza, sandwiches, salads, and dessert that you can eat.

Families will be able to enjoy a great Bear Tooth Banquet with videos and pictures of the season.  All children will receive season T-Shirts and Participation Awards. Each Animal Group will receive 1st through 5th overall awards by gender that combine attendance points with race points.

TWO races on Saturday and Sunday, plus lots of fun social activities. Please note the time change for tomorrow, Saturday’s Race! This adjusted race schedule will allow us to make up for cancelled races.

Saturday Slalom Race on Tanaka – Early Start

  • Bib Pickup 9:15 to 9:45 in the RTC

  • BBQ Break as Groups complete first Race
  • Second race start 2:00 pm ESTIMATE

Sunday Giant Slalom Race on Race Trail – Regular Start

  • Meet Coaches at 10:15 am at Signs

  • Race starts at 11:30 am
  • BBQ Break as Groups complete first Race
  • Second race start 2:30 pm ESTIMATE
  • Mini Howard Holtan Race will follow immediately following the end of the second race – Registration at RTC on Sunday about 10:30 am.

Please note the Mighty Mite Board met and agreed this will be our final Mighty Mite scheduled weekend as next weekend we will be assisting with the U14 Championship Races to at Alyeska.

10:30 – 12:00: Free ski + GS training, if possible. If we are able to set gates, it will not be on Tanaka, for safety and accessibility reasons.

12:00 – 1:00: Lunch.

1:00 – 3:00: Free ski + GS training, if possible.

Volunteers Needed!

If you can help in any of the positions for Saturday and/or Sunday please email Karissa at alyeskamightymites@gmail.com and identify when you are able to help. There are multiple races on both days so there are lots of opportunity to help.  You can sign up in the morning on Race Day in the RTC. Thanks in advance for all the support as these long weekend races require a lot of parent help for success!

  • BBQ Support – 3 Volunteers needed for each day! Duties include setting up BBQ, cooking, serving and tearing down.
  • BBQ Setup – 2 or more Volunteers Needed. Be at the RTC by 9:30am Saturday.
  • Bib Handout – 3 Volunteers Needed – Be at RTC by 9:30am to sort bibs.
  • Gate Keepers – 15 Volunteers will be needed (two full courses) – Please meet by the Coke Machine in the RTC at 10:45am to receive your clip boards and instructions.
  • Starters – I need one more full Day Volunteer (two full courses)- Please be on the hill by 11:15am to test the start wands.  Or 2 half Day Volunteers.
  • Finish Referees – 2 Full Day Volunteers Needed (two full courses)- Please be on the hill by 11:45am to test the finish beam. Or 4 half Day Volunteers.
  • Bib Pickup – 3 or 4 Volunteers Needed (two courses) – I hour starting at 1:45pm. And hand out candy bars.
  • BBQ Cleanup – as many volunteers as possible.  We need a few people on Saturday to cleanup and regroup for Sunday
  • BBQ Take down and Cleanup on Sunday – again as many volunteers as possible to leave the RTC clean

SL Pointed Race | Sunday February 22, 2015

THIS IS DEPENDENT ON SNOW, WEATHER & MOUNTAIN CONDITIONS.

Pre-Race Bib Pickup 10 to 10:15 am in the RTC

Meet Coaches at 10:15 am at Animal Signs

10:30-11:15 Course Inspection.  We will be running two courses simultaneously, one course for Chipmunks, Otters, Beavers and Lynx, and another course for Tigers, Cougars, Wildcats and Junior Hopefuls.

Race Start estimated for 11:15 am.

  • First Course: Otters, Chipmunks, Beavers and Lynx, in that order.
  • Second Course: Cougars, Wildcats, Tigers, Jr hopefuls, in that order.

We anticipate that the race will be over by 1:15 pm.

Morning ski with groups and coaches: All groups will inspect the course in the morning and race in the morning.

Volunteer’s Break – After Race is complete.

Kid’s Lunch break – After the individual groups races are complete (will vary and be at coaches discretion).

Afternoon ski with groups and coaches: Groups will ski with their coaches for the afternoon following lunch break until 3pm.

Awards – Estimated for 3:30 pm in the RTC or outside if weather permits.

One Run Race: This race is our first pointed race. This means that if a racer misses a gate or has difficulty they will not receive a re-run. The only re-runs allowed are those for racers who have been interfered with and that was substantiated by the racer’s coach, and race officials. Parents with concerns about their child’s runs are directed to their child’s coaches – this procedure follows USSA Racing guidance.

February 8, 2015 | Schedule

10:15 – 10:30: Meet coaches and groups at the base of Tanaka by the animal signs.  Please check the lists on the RTC window for changes in groups. We are still doing some movement within groups, primarily the Chipmunk and Cougar groups to help ensure that groups are compatible free skiing. If you have questions about your child’s group please find Karissa to discuss it.

10:30 – 12:00: Ski/train with coaches in assigned groups.  We plan to set up stubbies/brushies (short SL type gates) to continue our focus on slalom fundamentals. Hill space and mountain conditions are limiting factors.

12:00 – 1:00: Return to RTC for Lunch Break.

1:00 – 3:00: Ski/train with coaches in assigned groups.

Please dress your children for the cold weather!

The cleanup schedule will be posted in the RTC this weekend. This Sunday the Chipmunk group is responsible for RTC is cleanup.

Parents: Please help keep the Race Training Center clean. After lunch, pick up loose trash and vacuum the carpet. At the end of the day, please repeat the process, as well as bag up the trash cans and place the trash by the door nearest the stairs going up. Thank you!

Superbowl Sunday | February 1, 2015

Mighty Mites will begin at 10:30 AM [meet at signs at 10:15] and end at 1:00 PM. We will ski  through the lunch hour. This will accommodate those who want to enjoy Super Bowl festivities, and allow others to get out and enjoy some crowd-free skiing in the afternoon.

Please feed your kids a big breakfast and send a good snack with them to hold them over until 1:00.
